Guitar Cases Online

Guitar Cases are an investment for your guitar.

A guitar case will add years – maybe even decades – to the life of your guitar, while at the same time becoming an essential part of your guitarist "persona". Your guitar case does really becomes part of your guitar personality.

You may not have a good music store in your town or city with a wide variety of guitar cases for sale. That is the purpose of this site; to give you information on how to choose the best guitar case for your needs.

And, of course, we will make available to you the best guitar cases for sale on the net, for delivery to you wherever you live. (Guitar Centre, for example, ships to virtually every country on earth, and in your own currency, if you prefer.)

There are so many different types of guitar cases for sale, however, you may not even know where to start.

There are a few basic points to understand first, after which the decision on which guitar case is right for you becomes much easier.

The Right Sized Guitar Case

One of the basic things you should know is what size guitar case you need.

While there are specially made acoustic guitar caseselectric guitar cases, and classical guitar cases for sale, sometimes these designations may be irrelevant, like when a fat semi-acoustic electric guitar can fit into an acoustic case, for example.

There are different shapes of guitars, like a Dreadnought acoustic guitar as opposed to a standard acoustic guitar, arch-topped semi-acoustic vs. solid body electric guitars, jumbo vs. baby acoustics, and so forth.

With all this variety, the most important thing to know  is your guitar's measurements.

The following diagram shows you the names of the relevant parts you need to know when buying guitar cases:

Guitar Cases Names of Guitar Parts

  • The overall length is from the bottom of your guitar to the top of the head.
  • The body length is from the highest point of the body to the bottom of the guitar.
  • The upper bout width is the widest section of the upper body of your guitar.
  • The waist is the narrowest part of your guitars body.
  • And the lower bout width refers to the bottom part of the guitar body.
  • The depth refers to the distance from the back of the guitar body to the front of the guitars body.

With this information, you can then check the specifications and dimensions of the guitar cases you are interested, and select the right size.

Hard or Soft Guitar Case?

After you know the size of your guitar, you should also make a decision on what type of guitar case you are interested.

The first choice is perhaps whether you want a hard or soft guitar case. Before you make up your mind too quickly, however, you should be sure you know the pros and cons of each type.

Hard Guitar Cases: Upsides

The upside of hard electric guitar cases is that they offer more protection, particularly against heavy falling objects and other hard sudden impacts.

They are great for packing into a car or a plane. Classic woodshell guitar cases, in particular, also look very elegant and have a lot of style. Especially with vintage brown leather finishes. These are often the most popular types of guitar cases for sale.

Woodshell or Molded Polyethylene

You should also know that there are different types of hard guitar cases. The two basic types are wood shell hard guitar cases and molded hard guitar cases.

Wood shell guitar cases are usually guitar-shaped, but sometimes are rectangular, and all usually have leather-type exterior finishes. Their interiors are normally plush and soft. Like the name suggests, they are made with a wood base.

Molded guitar cases are even more rugged and durable than woodshell guitar cases, made from heavy duty plastic (usually polyethylene) with dense foam on the inside to hold your guitar in place during bumpy rides.

Molded guitar cases are especially useful when traveling on planes or when stacking up your guitar with a whole lot of other heavy equipment. Many molded guitar cases are constructed to military specifications.

Hard Guitar Cases: Downsides

The downside is that hard guitar cases are heavy and often cumbersome to carry around, and they take up a lot of space.

If you need to take your instrument on the bus or train, for example, or carry it while riding your bike (I used to do that a lot to jam at my friend's house) that can be awkward.

Soft Cases: Upsides

That is the exact upside of soft electric guitar cases: they are light and easy to carry.

Most, in fact, come with backpack-type straps. Indeed, soft guitar cases are often known as gig-bags, because they make carrying your instrument around so much easier.

In addition, most soft guitar cases have a lot more storage space than hard cases, as they have more pockets and compartments.

Also, when not in use, soft guitar cases can be stored away much more easily than hard cases.

Finally, soft guitar cases are a lot less expensive than hard cases. Cost-wise, they can be very cheap guitar cases, but quality-wise they are very good value.

Soft Cases: Downsides

The downside is that soft guitar cases do not offer as much protection as hard cases.

Also, even the most stylish-looking ones can never look as good as a great woodshell hard guitar case.

Hybrid Guitar Cases

If you still don't know to what type of guitar case you want there are hybrid hard/soft guitar cases for sale, made with durable nylon exteriors and hard, dense foam interiors.

They are sort of a cross between a hard and soft case.

Brands of Guitar Cases For Sale

You may also want to select your new guitar case according to brand. This can be according to the manufacturer of the cases in question or according to the brand of your guitar, like Fender guitar cases or a Washburn guitar case.

Popular manufacturers of guitar cases include TKL casesGator guitar casesSKB guitar cases, and BAM guitar cases. These are also available on this site.

They often make the guitar cases for the popular brands, in fact, which means that you can get the same cases for cheaper straight from the manufacturer (but with without the guitar brand logos).

Once you have these variables figured out you can choose your new guitar case and be confident that it will be correctly suited to your needs.

With this information, you should now be able to select the best guitar case for your needs, from a great selection, at the right price.
